ICP Simplifies Re-Entry Process for Expats Staying Outside UAE for Over 6 Months

For residents who have been out of the country for longer than six months, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a new permit. 

On January 27, the ICP published a statement under the heading "Permits for staying outside UAE for over six months" on its smart services website

Residents can apply for the permit by offering a legitimate justification for their extended absence, according to the ICP website. They will be able to return to the UAE with the permit. The ICP has simplified the process for citizens who have spent a significant amount of time abroad to return home.


Service Requirements for Re-entry Permit
Before applying for the re-entry permit, the ICP website outlines the following requirements to be aware of:
The application must be submitted while outside the UAE.
Eligible to apply after 180 days of staying outside the country.
Upon approval, entry into the UAE must occur within 30 days from the date of approval.
A valid justification for being outside the UAE for over 180 days is required.
A Dh100 fine will be imposed for every 30 days or less spent outside the UAE."
