Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai officially opened its doors on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in a grand ceremony attended by Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and international delegates. With over 160 participating countries, the Expo is hosted on Yumeshima Island in Osaka, Japan, and will run for six months until October 13, 2025.
Guided by the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” Expo 2025 seeks to explore innovative solutions for global challenges, promote cross-border collaboration, and engage the world in creating a better, more sustainable future.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has captivated global audiences at Expo 2025 with its striking pavilion titled “Earth to Ether.” This participation comes 50 years after the UAE’s first appearance at Expo Osaka in 1970, symbolizing both its journey of transformation and long-standing connection with Japan.
One of the largest national pavilions at the Expo, the UAE's structure is inspired by the date palm, a symbol of resilience in Emirati culture. Built using sustainable materials like palm rachis and employing Japanese timber techniques, the design beautifully blends tradition with eco-conscious innovation.
The "Earth to Ether" concept invites visitors on a journey from natural beginnings (Earth), through human achievement and technological growth (Sky), to limitless future possibilities (Ether). Through immersive storytelling, digital experiences, and dynamic exhibits, the pavilion highlights the UAE’s contributions in:
Space science and exploration
Renewable energy and climate action
Health and education innovation
Artificial intelligence and youth empowerment
Beyond its visual appeal, the UAE Pavilion serves as a hub for conferences, workshops, and cultural exchange, offering opportunities for meaningful dialogue between innovators, thought leaders, and the public. Its programming aligns with the Expo’s focus on “Empowering Lives,” and further cements the UAE’s role in shaping global conversations on sustainability and future-ready societies.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Shihab Al Faheem and Minister of State Noura Al Kaabi highlighted the pavilion as a celebration of the UAE’s 50-year relationship with Japan, emphasizing mutual respect, collaboration, and a shared vision for the future.
With an expected 28 million visitors, Expo 2025 is set to be a landmark event in global innovation and diplomacy. The UAE’s “Earth to Ether” pavilion stands as a symbol of progress—deeply rooted in heritage, yet fearlessly looking toward the future.
